About Us

April 2022

Once again we have experienced changes to our operation.

The building we operated from at 285 Prideaux St is being demolished and replaced with Supportive Housing.  We are currently looking for a new location from which to provide a sit down meal service but are facing challenges in doing so.  If you are aware of a potential location please e mail info.710club@gmail.com or call or text 250 797 0531.

In the interim we have leased space for a short period on weekdays to prepare enhanced bag lunches, equivalent to two meals, which we distribute in the community.

We are grateful for the continued support of our volunteers and community partners.

The Nanaimo 7-10 Club has not missed a day of service since the COVID 19  outbreak began. While we have scaled back from a sit down meal Soup and or Porridge, Coffee and a Bag Lunch to take out only, Bag Lunch (SANDWICHES & SNACK) and coffee,  cups of take out soup now available as well, serving as many as 200 per day 7:00 to 10:00am Monday thru Friday.

Partnering Saturday breakfast groups and the Saturday dinner group have also adapted and continue serving as well.

Currently, with most of our senior volunteers self isolating at this time, we are looking for non compromised healthy volunteers to fill the gap. Call 250 714 0917 or e-mail info@nanaimo710club.com
If interested.

Donations of foods for soup and sandwiches as well as fresh fruit are gratefully appreciated as are tax receiptable monetary donations. Contact us at info@nanaimo710club.com or call.

MISSION: The 7-10 Club’s mission is to feed the hungry and to increase access to food for those in need.

We accomplish this by working in partnership with the community and providing public awareness of poverty through education and advocacy.

VISION: A community that embraces all of its population equally by working collectively to eliminate hunger and contribute to the alleviation of poverty.

The Nanaimo 7-10 Club Society was started in 1985 by a group of 12 people from differing faith backgrounds who came together to feed hungry children in the city. Since then, the 7-10 Club has served more than three million meals, serving meals to anyone in need.

The 7-10 Club Meal Program provides a hot nutritious breakfast, homemade soup and or porridge, plus a brown bag lunch to go that is served by community volunteers to those in need during the hours of 7:00am to 10:00am Monday thru Friday. Saturdays Meals are served 9:30am to 11:30am in partnership with other community groups. 110,000+ meals are served per year. All meals are offered FREE OF CHARGE

We serve upward of 200+ people per day and this number keeps growing. Our client base includes families with children, low income individuals, seniors and the neediest of the community. With your support we will be able to continue to feed the hungry people of Nanaimo.

7-10 Clients: The majority of 7-10 clients include families and individuals struggling to live on fixed incomes, seniors, students, persons with mental illness, as well as people with substance abuse problems and the homeless.  Not just a place to access food the 7-10 Club offers a caring environment and means for people to network and Socialize. The 7-10 Breakfast Club is open to anyone in need of food or companionship.

A host of volunteers assist three part time staff resulting in minimum administrative staffing costs. Other expenses include monthly rent and costs for groceries and supplies.  To Volunteer call 250 714 0917 between 7 & 10am

Funding is provided by community donations from individuals, service clubs, local businesses, church groups as well as Provincial Gaming funds. Donations go directly towards helping those in need in our community.

Without these donations many individuals and families would go without breakfast.  Inadequate nutrition has been linked to poor learning skills in children and poor lifestyle choices in adults.

The 7-10 Club Breakfast Program is located in the auditorium of the Community Service Building at 285 Prideaux Street, ( entrance off Fitzwilliam St.).

The 7-10 Club Society is supported by the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund and Nanaimo Foundation.
