The Nanaimo 7-10 Club Society was started in 1985 by a group of 12 people from differing faith backgrounds who came together to feed hungry children and families in Nanaimo. Since then, the 7-10 Club has served more than one million meals, not only to children and families, but to anyone in need.
The 7-10 Club provides a hot nutritious breakfast, home made soup, plus a brown bag lunch to go that is served by community volunteers to those in need during the hours of 7:00 am to 10:00 am. All meals are offered at no charge.
7-10 Clients: The majority of 7-10 clients include families and individuals struggling to live on fixed incomes, seniors, students, persons with mental illness, as well as people with substance abuse problems and the homeless. Not just a place to access food the 7-10 Club offers a caring environment and means for people to network and Socialize. The 7-10 Breakfast Club is open to anyone in need of food or companionship.
A host of volunteers assist three part time staff resulting in minimum administrative staffing costs. Other expenses include monthly rent and costs for groceries and supplies.
Funding is provided by community donations from individuals, service clubs, local businesses, church groups as well as Provincial Gaming funds. Donations go directly towards helping those in need in our community.
Without these donations many individuals and families would go without breakfast. Inadequate nutrition has been linked to poor learning skills in children and poor lifestyle choices in adults.
The 7-10 Club Breakfast Program is located in the auditorium of the Community Service Building at 285 Prideaux Street, ( entrance off Fitzwilliam St.).
